Formation of new Department of Geriatric Mental Health at KGMU

A Government order number 2587/71-3-05-KG-45/2000T.C. dated August 18, 2005 separating Geriatric Mental Health Unit functioning in the Department of Psychiatry, K. G's. Medical University and converting it into a statutory Department of Geriatric Mental Health within the Medical University made the beginning of an era in the treatment and care of geriatric psychiatric patients in the country.

New Cobalt Unit for Radiotherapy

A new Cobalt unit was inaugurated in the Department of Radiotherapy on 26th April 2005 by the Chief Minister. The machine – Theratron 780E is a megavoltage machine with cobalt source and is used for external beam radiation therapy of all solid tumours. It takes only a few seconds to deliver the treatment. Cost of treatment will be Rs 35/- per fraction only, which will come to approx Rs 100-1200 for the whole course.

Infectious Diseases Hospital reopened

The Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) was reopened on 5 th May 2005 . The hospital was formally inaugurated by Principal Secretary Health, Shri Siddarth Behura. The hospital will be run under the guidance of KGMU faculty Dr Ramakant, Dr AA Mahdi, Dr Amita Jain, Dr Virendra Atam and Dr OP Singh. A team of doctors from the Provincial Medical Services would work on deputation at IDH till employment of regular staff. Eleven paramedics have also been posted from KGMU to IDH. It is planned to develop the hospital as an institute on the lines of Centre for Disease Control, Atlanta , US.

Blood Gas Analysis

The following investigations are available from 11am to 9 pm at the NICU Lab of the Department of Pediatrics as per approved hospital rates.
Blood gases & electrolytes (Sodium, potassium, calcium and chloride) Rs 150/-
Electrolytes (Sodium, potassium, calcium and chloride) Rs 50/-
Heparinised blood samples should be sent to the lab as soon as they are taken.

The Department of Microbiology has started doing TB Cultures by BACTEC technique. The charges for these are as follows:

 

Private Ward patients
General patients
TB culture only Rs 400/- Rs 300/-
TB Culture & Sensitivity Rs 1000/- Rs 800/-
